Almost everyone, in one way or another, performs covers of their favorite artists or songs, be it in a karaoke club, in the car on your way to work, or even in the shower when you think no one is listening. Anthony Vincent, however, takes cover tunes to all new heights!
The bearded/tatted/pierced Vincent (who reminds me, in no small way, of the character Peter Vincent from the remake of Fright Night) absolutely kills it by singing Katy Perry‘s “Dark Horse.” But this is no mere cover, my friends. Vincent breaks it down into 20 10-second segments, each one a totally different style. From Rock to rap, to heavy metal and even opera, this brilliant montage has it all!
Okay, I have to admit that I geeked out in parts of this video. No, I’m not a Katy Perry fan. Sorry, it’s just not my kind of music. I am, however, a huge metal fan. Hearing Katy Perry in the style of Iron Maiden, Metallica, Pantera, and Slipknot put a smile on my face for which I am grateful no one was around to see. I also thought the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Frank Sinatra pieces were particularly inspired.
After watching this video I immediately headed to Vincent’s YouTube channel (Ten Second Songs) in hopes of finding many more smile-inducing performances. Alas, the channel is new, but here’s hoping that this newcomer pumps out more videos faster than Justin Bieber can piss off a Miami cop.

What if you could workout and sing karaoke at the same time?! Crazy, right? Well, yes, but it is a real thing. Karaoke spinning classes are popping up all around the country and people are loving it!
Do you find it difficult getting motivated enough to go to the gym? Having trouble finding an exercise routine that actually makes you want to get up and go? Many of us face the same situation; we want to get in shape but find the monotony of jogging, biking, or lifting weights… well, monotonous. These karaoke spinning classes could be just what the doctor ordered
According to class instructors and participants alike, the singing adds an element to the workout that not only keeps you entertained, but increases your cardio level at the same time. Almost any fitness expert you talk to will tell you that the key to getting and staying in shape is finding an activity you love to do. After all, if you don’t like it you’re not going to do it. If you’re a karaoke fan or even just a music fan (and I’m guessing you are given the nature of the blog you’re reading) this could be the perfect fit for you.
Motivated yet? No more excuses, guys. Get peddling, get singing, and get active!
Study after study has proven that music affects the brain positively or negatively depending on the circumstances. It can trigger memories, both good and bad, but the key phrase here is “trigger memories” as the wife of an Alzheimer’s patient in Wisconsin is finding out.
Bill Paese is an 82-year-old Alzheimer’s patient at the Rocky Knoll Health Care Center in Plymouth, Wis. For most of his life Bill sang in a barber shop quartet. According to his wife, Jean, an iPod playlist of barber shop music allows her to see glimpses of the man she married 53 years ago.
“He’s in there,” Jean told ABC News‘ Byron Pitts, “and sometimes we get to see him.”
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 5 million Americans are afflicted with the disease. It’s the 6th leading cause of death in the United States.
While researchers are careful to point out that listening to music is by no means a cure, it is believed that familiar music can activate enough areas of the brain to create connections and retrieve memories once thought lost.
In 2010, Dan Cohen, a social worker in New York, created the Music & Memory program in order for people to donate iPods for use by Alzheimer’s patients. To date the organization has collected approximately 10,000 iPods. The goal is 1 million. You can find information on how to donate here.
Here's your first March karaoke update, enjoy!!
